my second stay in kyoto was made even better by my weekend at this lovely traditional residence. the old japanese house was beautifully designed and the staff were incredibly helpful. the combination of modern comforts, like free wifi and ac, with the classic japanese aesthetic was truly special. i also appreciated the convenient location near kyoto station and the close proximity to bus stops and a convenience store.
Stairs were a challenge for some.

I got a great value for my money at Haruya Umekoji. The room was clean and well-equipped, and the location was convenient with easy access to major Kyoto attractions. The staff treated me exceptionally well, going above and beyond to help me find my lost items. I am truly grateful for their assistance.
The morning meal could use some improvement, perhaps by offering a wider variety of options.

I had a wonderful Japanese traditional-style experience at Haruya Hostel Terrace. The 100-year-old house had a beautiful garden and I enjoyed sipping green tea on the tatami floor. The dormitory was good value for money, and the common areas were clean and inviting. The staff was polite and helpful, and I loved the convenient location near Kyoto Station.
100% recommend this hotel.

We had a fantastic stay at the guest house. the staff at Haruya Umekoji were incredibly helpful and kind throughout our stay. the rooms and bathrooms were impeccably clean and the futons provided were the most comfortable we've slept on during our trip. the location was convenient as there was a bus stop just beside the accommodation, allowing us easy access to the various temples in the area. We were also able to purchase a 600 yen all-day bus pass, making it even more convenient to explore. There was an amazing ramen restaurant just around the corner which we highly recommend. Cons: Nothing to be said 🙌.

The old architecture of the hotel was really charming and added a unique touch to my city trip. I loved the quiet atmosphere and the clean and comfortable rooms. The staff were friendly and always willing to help with any requests or questions. Plus, the location was great, with easy access to key attractions and public transportation.
The facilities at the hotel were quite limited and outdated. The rooms were small and lacked proper storage space for luggage.

I recently stayed at Haruya Umekoji for 3 nights during my visit to Kyoto. The staff were incredibly friendly and the guesthouse was conveniently located near the aquarium and a variety of shops. There was a 24-hour convenience store just a minute away, and a delicious ramen and soba shop right across the street. The dormitory I stayed in was comfortable and quiet. The guesthouse had a cozy atmosphere, and I especially enjoyed the free morning porridge. I had a great experience and would definitely stay here again.
Can recommend this hotel.

A traditional hostel with helpful staff, informative about the city, never felt crowded, great cultural experience, like a high-level hotel, nice tatami room.
Nothing, all excellent.

The property had a traditional Japanese vibe and felt like stepping back in time. The staff were really friendly and helpful, giving me directions and recommendations for sightseeing. The location was great, with a bus stop nearby making it easy to get around.
There were a few things that detracted from my experience. the noise from the key ring bell was really annoying, especially when people were coming and going late at night or early in the morning.

I had a memorable stay at a lovely traditional guesthouse in Kyoto. The old traditional house had a nice appeal, giving me a glimpse into Japanese culture. The staffs were very friendly and provided a warm welcome with local sweets and water. I appreciated the convenient location near the aquarium and various shops. Moreover, the guesthouse offered 24-hour access to tea and water, which was a nice touch.
I must mention that there were a few drawbacks during my stay. the bathroom and toilet facilities were insufficient, causing inconvenience.
Tourists from South Africa often stay at these properties. Ideas for your future trips.
